Posting workers

Vice-president of Commission Margot Wallström proposes Mrs. Anna Diamantopoulou as a candidate to succeed Mr. José Manuel Barroso and wants to revise the Posting of Workers Directive
In an interview on the Swedish Radio on 9 May, the Vice-President of the European Commission, Margot Wallström, proposed Mrs. Anna Diamantopoulou as the socialist candidate to succeed Mr. José Manuel Barroso as President of the European Commission after the European Elections. Diamantopoulou is Member of the Greek Parliament and former EU Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs.

In addition to this, Mrs Wallström says she is in favour of revising the Posting of Workers Directive to restore workers’ rights after the judgments of the European Court of Justice.

“We hope that the European citizens will have two clear political alternatives to choose between in the upcoming European Elections. The European Trade Union movement will endorse any candidate who is willing to put the principles of equal pay for equal work, the update of the European Social model and the revision of the Posting of Workers Directive at the heart of their campaign”, commented Mr. Sam Hägglund, General Secretary of the EFBWW.
