Stoiber Group: Deregulation instead of better regulation
The European Federation of Building and Woodworkers has published a position paper on the proposals of the so called “Stoiber Commission” (High Level Group). The Commission is promising that scrapping or revising a number of directives will save businesses around 40 billion Euros by reducing the "administrative formalities" they impose.
One of the 13 policy areas the Commission was examining is the area of occupational safety and health, more precisely, the Framework Directive (89/391) and the Construction Site Directive (92/57). The EFBWW’s paper is showing that the commissions proposals are far away from better regulation but a clear attempt to derogate the reached level of work protection.
The paper is available in English, French and German. Additionally, you can download a more elaborated version in English only.
