European Social Partners of the Construction Industry criticize the Work of the “Stoiber Group”
During the Plenary meeting of the European Social Dialogue for the Construction Industry on 30 June, EFBWW and FIEC agreed on a joint position paper regarding the results of the European High Level Group, also known as the “Stoiber Group”. This group, installed by the European Commission, aimed at elaborating concrete proposals to reduce administrative burdens due to EU legislation.
The proceedings and methodology of the group are strongly criticised by EFBWW and FIEC as the proposals regarding health and safety at the workplace provisions (one out of fourteen policy areas) could have a strong impact on the construction sector.
Focussing on the so-called European “Framework Directive” (89/391) and the European “Construction Site Directive” (92/57) could have a detrimental effect on the positive achievements reached so far in health and safety policies.

The joint position paper is available in English. Other language versions will be posted very soon.
