EU sectoral Social Partners of the construction industry confirm their joint commitment to Health and Safety
By signing a joint statement on the modernisation of the EU Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation and policy the EU sectoral Social Partners of the construction industry, the EFBWW (representing the workers) and FIEC (representing the employers), underline their long standing strong commitment towards Health and Safety.

“We are confronted with a still relatively high number of accidents and risk factors at work resulting in occupational diseases. Both our organisations share the view that investments in health and safety bring important benefits to the society as a whole and therefore we consider the field of OSH an important issue to be jointly dealt with at the European level” declared Ulrik Spannow, Chairman of the EFBWW Health and Safety Coordination Group.

“There is a need to continue promoting and developing a culture of prevention of Health and Safety within each construction company and on each construction site, regardless of size. We call on the Commission to involve sectoral social partners in dialogue and consultation processes, in order to adequately take into account the specific circumstances of our sector.” added Paul Depreter, FIEC Vice-President responsible for Social Affairs.
